Childbirth Preparation Class Benefits

There are so many questions that arise as you get closer and closer to your due date.  Both men and women may have negative thoughts and feelings about the impending birth experience.  The biggest obstacle that you may have is the fear of the unknown.  Education and open discussion is helpful in decreasing the fear.  The more you know and understand about your body and the process of labour, the better prepared you will be to choose the best options available to you.
Attending childbirth classes will give you information on the process of childbirth and postpartum care.

In class the expectant mother and her partner will benefit from:

  • Meeting and connecting with other expectant couples.
  • Having open discussions about pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care
  • The opportunity to ask questions openly of instructor and of other class members in a safe environment.
  • Relaxation techniques taught in class.
  • Communication skills taught in class.
  • Labour scenarios and role-playing.

In class the expectant mother and her partner will learn the following:

  • That pregnancy and labour are a normal and healthy occurrence.
  • To trust the process and not to fight the contractions.
  • Options available in managing labour and pain.
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Importance of the partner in supporting the labouring woman.
  • Breastfeeding techniques and realities.
  • Newborn care techniques and realities.
